I think that, just for the record, I should state that I don't buy any Sony product that isn't a TV or blu-ray player.
In just about every other field Sony steals ideas and somehow gets away with it.
Like their "media organizer" program or whatever- haven't they ever heard of iTunes?
Or this... SonyMote?

Cameron is another typical left-wing hollywood moron. This movie sucked monkey balls. Jake (anyone named Jake is automatically a douche) is a complete turd of a character. It is so painfully obvious what each side, character stands for: Navi=wonderful gentle people of Iraq with flowers in their hair, CORPORATION=Big Bad US soldiers and US, unobtanium=oil, etc. etc. Idiotic.

Maybe for realism, they should have thrown in the Navi putting IED's in their own villages, killing off each other while also killing the Corporation troops. Or how about beheading each other and hanging the bodies on bridges? Better yet, how about showing the Corporation building wells, soccer fields, schools, hospitals for the Navi while the blue people continue to attack them?

I disagree with the idea that Al Gore would agree with any of the simplistically presented political talking points Avatar tries to force-feed its audience. He strikes me as a far more intelligent and sophisticated gent who could easily come up with a greater justification for environmental awareness than HURR DURR CORPORATIONS BAD BLUE KITTIES-WHO-ARE-SO-NOT-STAND-INS-FOR-NATIVE-AMERICANS GOOD. Otherwise, Dave, you (and the blogger) have nailed squarely on the head everything that's wrong with this movie.

Quaritch 4 Life tho, man. The guy may be cardboard, but he is the most awesome stack of badass cardboard to grace the screen. He needs his own series pronto.

So now I've got two young, studdy musician-bloggers. This doujinshi will be going into third and fourth printings. Already thinking about getting an agent to sell the movie rights. Cha-ching. I'll be lighting my Cuban cigars with 1,000,000 yen notes.

What is the song the end of the podcast?

Evan, now that I know you play harmonica, we need to find some way to collaborate in an acoustic guitar/harmonica anime folk rock spectacular. It can be the theme song to the doujinshi about us that Ed Sizemore is commissioning.

«SPOILERS BELOW, BE WARNED»
Wow, after reading all of this, it seems to me that you (and a few other people) didn't think about what you were writing at all, and that you seemed to only complete the game once because absolutely everything you wrote here has an explanation to it except the fact that when Ethan blacked out, he had an origami in his hand. Other than that, everything else makes absolute sense if you think about it for just a bit.
Ok, read this and learn a bit:

All of Scott's thoughts in the game never actually lie to you; they are just smart double entendres. Note that he never says something like "I will get closer to finding the killer". If you analyze his thoughts carefully, you will realize that he always means something else. A good example might be when he thinks about Lauren in Manfred’s shop, "She thinks she is going to find the killer. She will be disappointed", this is a perfect example. He knows he is the killer and as such he knows Lauren won't find anything because he is there to sabotage things.

Madison is a journalist, Scott Shelby used to be a cop, and you don't know what happened in the past. Also, it seems that Scott was well known in the police, (if you had played the game more than once and took different paths you would know this) so maybe he was a pretty popular cop and was known by a lot of people in the past.

They can't call the cops because Scott has cameras in some of his trials and the police would not be able to complete the trials by themselves. All the trials imply that something dangerous or 'against the law' must be performed. Besides, the killer wants the fathers to prove their strength; it is more than obvious to assume that he doesn't want the police involved. In the shark trial, do you really think the police would kill anyone? Or do you think they would drive against traffic? I think not... And they can only find the address if they complete the trials... And Madison doesn't call the cops because she was also being wanted.

Play the game again, please... They have a lot more against Ethan than what you mentioned... His wife’s statement, Dupres (his shrink) statement, the origami figure... Were you sleeping during the game?... And Mad Jack was never a suspect to begin with... And they shoot Ethan in the end because he makes a sudden and dangerous movement... And Jayden selected the 2 individuals based on the evidence he gathered... All of it makes sense...

Ethan's blackouts are perhaps the only really unexplainable event. Not because he blacks out, but how he ends up with the origami figure is a real puzzle. But then again, we don't really know what happened when he blacked out.

The town where this game takes place doesn't seem to be very big. Every cop is awarded with a gold watch when they are promoted. It made absolute sense to assume that the killer was a cop. After that, he checked all active and non-active cops in the area. A dumb detective would only search for active cops. A smart detective like Jayden would search all cops, retired, out of service or active. And with all Jayden knows, the victims are always kept in open areas, not inside houses, so he went to the warehouse of the cop. And he works in the FBI; he has access to a lot of data.

The problems don't really disappear... Play the game again please...

The shoot-out at the Kramer villa could have been more refined, it is true. But you don't know what pistol Scott is using, and he might have even reloaded during any of the scenes were you don’t see his gun. Why the cops aren't called? Doesn't Kramer try to kill Shelby too...? Calling the cops would be bad for both. Besides, Kramer is rich; he can easily dispatch this situation on his own. If he is dead, his crazy son would deal with things. It's true someone can't really get away with killing people with ease, but there is so much room for what could be done here... And don't forget that Kramer’s son also killed a young boy. Everyone wants to stay out of trouble...

Buy a HDTV? It's about time... And if you can't really afford one, you can configure the game settings to match an SDTV easily by adapting the screen and decreasing its size.

The English cast, for me, did a competent job (except the children's voices) but here it's about everyone’s personal tastes. What you may not like, others may love it.

If you played the game more than once and with different endings you would know that Scott WOULD NOT shoot Ethan. He would in fact hand the gun over to him. What happens here is that Jayden or Madison arrive and start a fight with Shelby. If Ethan arrives alone, then Scott gives the gun to Ethan and gives him the choice of killing him or not. If you arrive with Ethan and someone else, when Scott points the gun at Ethan, he would be handing the gun over to him but the other character would assume he was going to shoot Ethan and so he/she intervenes.
-
So as you can see, all that is said here can easily be countered. After playing the game a few times, all falls into place. Maybe playing the game at least more than once before writing all this in the future...?

Don't want to hate anyone here lol, just stating information. Thanks. Keep up with your work.

Wish that you guys would definitely write up a summary of what key points did you talk during the podcast. It was definitely interesting for what you guys experienced as. Going for Otakon next year? Definitely need to experience AX myself as well... so I definitely agree on some points your podcast made etc.

I agree. This was my second Otakon, and it truly impressed me how smooth everything flowed. Even with the fire alarm, it went off without a hitch. Much better than last year, I must say.

Spare me your comment Jdigitalseven,

Yes, Sony has been working on the Eye Toy for a long time. They were working on motion control tech, but not with an actual controller like Nintendo, more like Natal in a sense or Natal is like the Eye Toy, you get the picture. Nintendo truly brought out the motion control/controller interface to the people. Sony brought out the Eye Toy. Without the Wii, the next "Eye Toy" would not have been one with a controller strikingly similar to that of the Nintendo Wii. It does not take a rocket scientist to know that the console market wants to capitalize on Wii's successes.

And while were at, Nintendo has been working with motion control since the 1980s. It's called the Powerglove. NEXT.

Its funny how anti-Sony this article is. First off Sony has been working on this tech since 2000, the PS2 Eyetoy was the first version of it. They learned alot and improved the tech, as shown at E3 last year. Sony actually had a LIVE DEMO! MS had recorded demos and some private access demos to some in the media. Sony's demo was actually an obvious success and proved their tech....Its so funny how butt hurt people think if they write a story, that it will change the truth.

I couldn't have agreed with this post more.
I am also part of the minority who hate this film for what it is: A film with a terrible script littered with plot holes, dumb dialog, stupid, unlikeable characters, cliches and steriotypes and political messages that Al Gore would probably agree with.

In short I hated this film.

I ignored the new gen games until LeafGreen got me playing again. Last year's Platinum just blew my mind how awesome it was, I logged 300 hours easily playing it. SoulSilver...didn't have quite the impact. 65 hours and I lost interest, but admittedly...the nostalgia had somewhat worn off.

But Platinum...that was a truly amazing experience.

I'm kind of mixed on this issue. I'm with you on that the whole "Only Red/Blue/Yellow matter" thing (Actually, I've seen the second generation thrown in there often as well) is pretty self-centered and I can't help but get the feeling they haven't really invested time with the newer ones. I've noticed this amongst several game fanbases (most notably the bitter Donkey Kong Country guys), and I think it should be obvious by now that a lot of video game fans have a habit of refusing to move on. For example, my cousin doesn't play any Pokemon games past Silver, but he still embraces the first two series (not to mention the latest remake).

Personally, I've actually grown disinterested in the series myself, but that's only because of the direction that Pokemon itself has taken. I'm one of the scant few who tell you that Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald were the peak of the series and the following Diamond/Pearl/Platinum games were boring. Maybe it's because it didn't expand on the absolutely gorgeous landscapes Ruby provided, I don't know. It just didn't capture me.

I think Black and White look great, though. My only real compalin is that I don't think the new Pokemon designs, sans the awesome legendaries, look very good. You think Nosepass looks bad? Take a gander at that gear one.

In the meantime, I'd better get back to playing Soul Silver...it's been like a month.

Until this day, from time to time I hear question in my mind: "What can change the nature of a man?"
There isn't any piece of art that I could compare with Planescape: Torment - and, I'm sure, it'll never be.

the ending pissed me off. its like 'wow its back to the beginnning and no one remembers anything that happened except him'
he should have become king after his annoying brothers died and got with the princess (who actually remembers falling for him)
other than that I actually enjoyed it, i just can't resist complaining.

This game has very special memories for me- I had a copy of sonic 3 (the save function never worked on it) and my friend who I saw every 2 weeks had S&K.
When we met up, we would immediately slap the cartridges together and play until our parents came to forcefully remove the Mega Drive.
The sheer length of the game and the immensity of the Doomsday Zone are both etched on my mind until this day, as well as the unending frustration that my carts save function did not work.

Also, fuck the pyramids and desert zone, I sucked horribly at that level.

@Morendo,

I do think I went in more depth than would be expected for a child's survey, but I think people tend to underestimate their reasoning or opinions. I asked some very specific questions to get them thinking about things they might not have. It was surprising how some were very opinionated on which publisher they preferred.

[Yeah, I said this on Twitter, but others might have been interested too]

@Lothos

Yeah, I sent a link to Yen Press. I know the survey's scope is small, but it could mirror a larger poll to an extent.

@Kate

I am always interested in seeing how others perceive the medium. I also am glad to get to introduce children to one of my favourite things ever.

Thanks, Adarg! I appreciate the feedback.

I made the cover black and white to save on price, and was bummed at first. Once I start designing it though- I really like it this way.

Here are some suggestions from lwelyk:

"How FFIX was a return to form, the Squareness of SMRPG, the creative enemy/boss design of YI"

If I come up with anything I'll let you know.

I'm really not sure what to say about any of them. A review seems pretty pointless considering how old they are. But if you ever have any other ideas that relate to those games, I'm your man.

Any one of those would be a welcome addition, especially Yoshi's Island. [though some serious time-space management would be required for a weekly column on YI to appear in a non-weekly magazine]

PS: Yoshi's Island ties with Majora's Mask for my favourite game ever.

Oh no. At first I will admit that I assumed we were talking about the best music from the franchise, but then I read the article and noticed the quotes around "best" were there for a reason.

Did I really do that bad of a job of specifying that I'm talking about the "best" of the really cheesy music? XD Every comment here and on other sites is like WHERE'S THE ICE CAP ZONE. Clearly I need to be much more explicit.

Now now. I thought this list my have some songs from the older games, like Sonic 1 or 3, but I guess the purpose of this list was for the newer games. I pretty much agree with this list, and for the record I can't bring myself to hate the Sonic R soundtrack. I can bring myself to spit on the game, for the degrees of frustration it brought me but that's about it.

WAIT. I can, and will rage about Shadow the Hedgehog. That's hard fail.

"Prince of Persia, The Sands of Time" was probably one of the movies which turned my disappointment other way around. To be honest when I entered the cinema I was expecting crappy story and not a lot of action. Those expectations were destroyed when the movie started to with back story to prince and then a battle scene. The battle scene was made in really awesome way and I was left pleased. Through out the whole story it was just ups and downs, they didn't leave the watcher waiting for action or any other events for long, since the action scene just kept on coming on and on. The ending was pretty interesting and it wasn't another misleading and disappointing story. I just loved it.

-You see, in Japan, these are all separate movies and specials, but combined here into one full-length film.-

That's really interesting! I never knew that.

"The general impression was that the characters “looked weird”- I was the only one I knew who found the character designs very interesting and was excited to see Digimon in higher quality animation."

I noticed that the animation was different, but I kind of just attributed it to the series upgrading to the big screen so I never thought about it. I dug the movie, too.

I haven't paid attention to Digimon in an incredibly long time (I used to be really into it until the third series and it only pops up in my mind every now and then), though I'd like to watch it again in some form. Have they ever released any DVDs?

This is is pretty much my all time most important childhood game. Was the Sonic game I played the most at a neighbourhood kid's house. Classic levels, faster, better bonus stage and SUPER SONIC! Not to mention epic last boss.

I recently(this week) went back to the Sonic games, starting with the first one and playing through all of them. They're all good, but the best one looking back at it now..

.. is Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Awesome power ups, Sonic, Tales AND Knuckles as playable characters. 6 Emeralds and 6 Super Emeralds. Super AND Hyper Sonic. Not to mention the longest "campaign" in the series. (But then again, this is pretty much 2 games put together -literally- into 1 "campaign")

I disagree, I think this is a good game for sure. And it lacking speed in some of the levels I don't think is a bad thing either, because just holding down and rolling away isn't exactly "fun gameplay", it's just staring at Sonic go by quickly.

But basically what kills the overall speed in most situations is how you can't start spinning when standing still. One of the major downfalls of the game, but still quality game none the less.

The underwater levels is always what I dislike the most.

And always a fan of the Robotnik battles. ;)

Way late on this comment, maybe someone will read it? Anyway I'm suprised everyone thought the investigations were too long. I thought they were too short. Now it might have been that the mysteries themselves were of low quality (i could pretty much figure out who was the bad guy within moments of seeing them): for example, the last case dragged on because it wasn't that interesting. But I thought the cases were actually much shorter than others. The fourth case in particular.

Regardless, I was wondering what you thought about taking the whole thing out of the courtroom. I thought it took away much of the series' intensity there being no Doom hanging overhead or nearly as much objections as there should have been. But I guess that is the whole point of calling it "investigations".

@Morendo,

@Lothos

Yeah, I sent a link to Yen Press. I know the survey's scope is small, but it could mirror a larger poll to an extent.

@Kate

I am always interested in seeing how others perceive the medium. I also am glad to get to introduce children to one of my favourite things ever.
